3 Ways “Love, Think, Serve” Will Guide St. Nicholas School in 2025–26
Preston Steger

Every year at St. Nicholas begins with a theme, a set of words meant to inspire, unite, and challenge our community. For 2025–26, that theme is simple in form but profound in meaning: Love, Think, Serve.

This year's theme invites us to focus on the actions that grow out of our shared identity. It’s a theme that asks us to lead with compassion, to use our minds with clarity and curiosity, and to recognize that real knowledge and love naturally flow outward in service. The words describe what we hope students will do and reflect who we are striving to become as a community.

"We are always amazed at how themes manifest themselves throughout the year, and are excited to see how Love, Think, Serve inspires each of us to refine how we care for ourselves, for one another, and for the Earth," said Assistant Head of School Alice Clark and School Chaplain Kara Miscio. "It is such an honor to explore this theme with individuals who naturally exhibit pure love, original thought, and a desire to serve: your children."

Here’s how St. Nicholas hopes to bring Love, Think, Serve to life in the months ahead.

Leading with Love

At St. Nicholas, love is kindness, an active choice to see and value each person.

Students are encouraged to practice empathy, extend grace when it’s hard, and build friendships that strengthen the entire community. Love shows up in the way we celebrate one another’s successes, support one another’s challenges, and work together to make our school a place where every child feels known and cared for.

Thinking with Clarity

Our classrooms are places where curiosity is welcomed and questions are encouraged.

Thinking with clarity means approaching problems with an open mind, weighing different perspectives, and using reason as a path to deeper understanding. By developing these habits early, students learn to engage thoughtfully with their world, combining knowledge with wisdom in both academic work and daily life.

Serving with Purpose

Service at St. Nicholas flows naturally from love and learning.

Students are invited to use their unique gifts to make a positive difference, whether it’s a helping hand, a creative idea, or a compassionate heart. From lending support to a classmate to contributing to community projects, service becomes a way of life, shaping children who recognize their ability to impact others positively.

As with every theme, the real beauty of Love, Think, Serve will be in how it quietly takes shape through the everyday moments of school life. We look forward to discovering together how these words will surprise and inspire us in the year ahead.
