Chapel

Chapel has been at the heart of St. Nicholas since the school began at Grace Episcopal Church in 1958. This is a time to gather as a community and offer praise to God through song, prayer and fellowship. Level 1 - Level 7 students gather daily, along with many parents, families and special guests, while Pk3 students have a weekly chapel of their own until they are eventually ready to join the traditional all-school chapel. 

Because we are an Episcopal school, St. Nicholas follows a simplified liturgy of the Episcopal Church, especially designed for children. This structure lends familiarity and routine, yet also leaves room for a variety of perspectives. The St. Nicholas chapel program models open-mindedness, tolerance, and acceptance of differences. Each child grows in their own faith and is encouraged to recognize what we have in common as well as valuing our differences. Chapel cultivates a sincere and deep love for God, ourselves and each other. 

The school year theme provides inspiration for many Chapel talks, as well as classroom conversations, service projects and school-wide activities. This year, our theme reminds us that, though we may not know it, we can be a light in someone's life.

Tuesday, January 21:  Level 4 MLK Tribute Chapel 
Tuesday, March 4:  Level 7 Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race (after chapel) 
Friday, April 11:  ELC InChoiry, 9 am (replaces regular chapel time) 
Thursday, April 17 at 9 am:  Grandparents Day (all levels; schedule TBA)
Friday, April 25 at 9 am: Lower Primary Theme Day Program (replaces regular chapel time) 
Thursday, May 22:  ELC Promotion, 9:00 am / Level 7 Graduation 11:00 am / PK3 promotion 2:00 pm  (no regular chapel) 
Friday, May 23:  Lower Primary Promotion, 9:00 am / Level 5 +Level 6 Promotion 10:30 am (no regular chapel)
