St. Nicholas librarian Wendy Wilkins
has prepared the following list of Fun in the Library
resources to enhance reading experiences for students.

SUMMER READING
AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Summer Reading Program at the Chattanooga Public Library is free and open to all regardless of residency. Registration begins on May 18th and may be done online for the first time. Students will have a game card to complete which includes reading an online Tumblebook which may be found on their website.

A detailed flyer on the Summer Reading Program is provided at the end year conferences along with suggested reading lists from the International Reading Association and the National Science Teacher.  Both reading lists and the Summer Reading Program flyer are included in your students Library Research folder. Most of the books on these lists are available at the library.

Library cards may be obtained for free for Chattanooga residents or families who have businesses or property in the city.  There is $50.00 annual fee for nonresidents to have a library card which will allow them to check out books, DVD’s, talking books, CD’s and access many invaluable databases. In lieu of the $50.00 fee, nonresidents may obtain a card by to volunteering 20 hours at one of the Chattanooga Public Libraries.

Volunteers (ages 13 and up) are especially needed at the finale of the summer reading program on Saturday, July 27th from 9:00-11:30. If interested, please contact Lee Hope, Children’s Coordinator at 757-5314.
