Research has proven that physical activity improves school performance, concentration, mood and behavior.  Therefore, active play or recess is one of the most important times during the St. Nicholas school day.  Active play affords St. Nicholas students opportunities to build character, learn how to cooperate with others, polish vital motor skills, and practice social interactions.  Because of the importance of active play, St. Nicholas has incorporated four well-equipped play areas into its campus plan.  Two other play areas are located on campus: one small open area in the center of the campus and another larger field located on the outer side of the campus.
