Commemorative Painting Description
The painting incorporates images of activities at both locations. The liturgical procession represents the chapel program which has marked the beginning of each school day since its inception, as well as promotions and other celebrations. The arches in the lower center are part of the original church as well as the St. Nicholas stained glass window seen on the right side. This window was given in memory of Jim E. Milburn, an early supporter of the school. "All Things Bright and Beautiful" (designed by James
and Alva Fields and donated by Curtis and Suzy Baggett) is the name of the stained glass segments seen in the upper corners and represent the stained glass which will be used in the future Chapel. The centerpiece of the painting is a tree, whose spreading branches encompass the tools of learning – music, the arts, literature and science – depicting the school as a place "where the love of learning takes root". Children are gathered beneath the tree in the pursuit of discovery and wisdom, as their friend, "Brownie" the bunny keeps watch.
