History: From its beginning in 1957 as a preschool program at Grace Episcopal Church, St. Nicholas has grown to become a lively and mature independent Episcopal day school for children in grades preschool through five. The campus is located on 24 picturesque acres in suburban East Brainerd in Chattanooga.
Starting as a neighborhood kindergarten located at Grace Episcopal Church, the school began to significantly expand its program in the early 1970s with the establishment of the Early Learning Center and with the addition of elementary grades. The first class of sixth graders graduated in 1978, and the school became separately incorporated in 1981.
As the academic program grew, the need for more classroom space became critical, and the school moved to its new campus in the summer of 1994. The present campus has six buildings, four of which are “cottages” where classes assemble. The campus includes four playground areas and an athletic field, surrounded by rolling lawns and quaint forests that create a secure and safe environment.
